To those not in the know, the entire concept of translation can seem quite mysterious: you upload a document in one language and – before you know it – it's returned in the language of your choice (with varying levels of success!). Here at Anglicus, we do things a little differently. We understand that people like dealing with people, so allow us to introduce ourselves.

"I always knew I wanted to go into translation and took a fairly direct route into the industry. After graduating from the University of Manchester with a first-class honours Master of Modern Languages degree in French & German, I went on to achieve a further MA in Translation & Interpreting, specialising in technical translation.More recently, I have qualified as an official member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (MITI) and also been awarded a special commendation from the Association of Translation Companies in the category of Translator of the Year.
When I'm not busy translating, I am a keen hockey player in the English national league and captain of the regional team."
Melanie Smith | Company Founder & Head Translator

"Some of my favourite holidays have been spent in France and I have always relished the opportunity to practise my language skills on every visit. Whilst my degree from the University of Cumbria did involve some linguistic modules, I have definitely learned more as a result of immersing myself in the language and culture as much as possible.I have been part of the Anglicus team from the very beginning and keep everything in order behind the scenes to ensure projects run smoothly and on schedule.
I love to spend my weekends with family, travelling as far and wide as we possibly can in our camper van! We also enjoy hosting families from around the world and helping them discover the beautiful North of England."
Paula Reynolds | Office Manager

"Since graduating from the University of Cumbria in 2013, I have been working part-time as a teacher – specialising in French – alongside my role at Anglicus Translations. I have a real passion for writing and already have one or two published works under my belt, so I love being part of a team where words are what we do best. When I don't have my nose buried in a good book with a cup of tea in hand, you'll find me scouring the Internet for social-media inspiration and making sure we always stay on top of our blog activity.
In my spare time – which is fairly limited with a toddler to contend with! – I am well on the way with writing my own novel – not forgetting the illustrations, of course!"
Charlotte Tomsett | Communications Manager

"French might have been the second language I picked up at school, but my real passion is for Spanish, which I learned the authentic way while travelling around South America on my gap year. I love to speak both languages at any opportunity but I prefer to leave formal translation to the professionals! With my undergraduate degree in English from the University of Manchester and a Master's in International Business, I very much enjoy the opportunity to combine my love for the written word with my background in business development.
When I'm not helping the company raise its international profile, you'll find me sourcing quality local ingredients to incorporate into my cooking, or standing with my husband on the football touchline watching our sons play."
Kelly Reynolds | Business Development Consultant

"I've been a member of the Anglicus team since May 2016 and like to make sure everyone's always on their toes. As a Hungarian Vizsla, I like to think of myself as Head of Central European Languages, although that title is yet to be approved. My antics have been known to brighten up the Anglicus Twitter and Instagram accounts from time to time, so any canine friends should definitely give us a follow! When I'm not enjoying cuddles or a crunchy pig's ear in the office, I love to head down to the local park to burn off steam or get some training in for my Good Citizen Awards."
